Buying Car Insurance

I have spent 30 years practicing personal injury law and the methods used to handle these cases changes frequently. It is important to insure that you carry the correct insurance coverage in your own policy as many people on the roadways do not carry insurance at all, their insurance has lapsed or they carry only minimum limits which often is insufficient to cover a claim.
When you speak to your insurance agent about your insurance, it is always a good idea to spend a few dollars and carry personal injury protection coverages-medical, disability income and death benefits. These are no-fault coverages which means that they will kick in no matter who was at fault for causing the accident. If these coverages are not rejected, Arkansas law requires a minimum of $5,000 in medical coverage, disability income coverge of 70% of your loss of income up to $140.00 per week, and death benefits are generally $5,000. There are many advantages to taking these coverages, especially considering the small cost.
Additionally, it is always a good idea to carry uninsured motorist coverage and underinsured motorist coverage. Too many drivers do not carry insurnance as they cannot afford it and most drivers only carry the state required minimum. These state minimums will not provide adequate protection, especially in the event of serious injuries, high medical bills, and a loss of income.
Carrying adequate liability limits to protect your assets and these other coverages will provide you protection even when the other driver was not insured and not capable of paying your damages.
